Data visualization fellowship at The Chicago Reporter

The Chicago Reporter seeks a part-time fellow to produce data visualizations that support our investigative reporting into race, poverty and income inequality.

We’re looking for someone who can tell stories by combining design with data. The ideal candidate will not only have experience producing charts, maps and other visuals, but also an ability to grasp journalistic processes and convey complex information in a way readers will easily understand.

Qualifications include:

•  Grasp of visual design concepts
•  Ability to parse various data formats (e.g. csv and json)
•  Adept with html, css and javascript
•  Background in journalism preferred but not required

This is a temporary, part-time position (20-25 hours per week over three months) based out of the Reporter newsroom in downtown Chicago.
